Hello my friends! I am so very excited about launching my website and posting my first ever “blog” post. Let it be known… I have no idea what I’m doing. I have never blogged in my life BUT I am excited to have another platform to share things with y’all! Thank you so so much for stopping by. Today’s post: MY 31 NIGHTS OF HALLOWEEN!!
Today is OCTOBER 1ST and as you know, I am beside myself. You all know my deep deep passion for the month October and all things Halloween. I wait for this month all year long and IT’S FINALLY ARRIVED! It’s my time to shine!
I get soooooOoOoOoOOOoo many questions about recommendations for my favorite Halloween movies, so I thought it would be super fun to put together this list of movies to create “Amy’s 31 Nights of Halloween”. Very similar to Freeform, but a little more curated to my taste. The idea is that together, as a community, we watch the movies on its corresponding date and by the end, you will have enjoyed all of my favorite Halloween movies! They will be listed down below, in order of watching, as well as where you can stream them or a link to buy them if that’s what you’d prefer. And they are intended to be watched in this order SO DON’T SKIP AROUND. I’m just kidding, do as you please but I will be watching them in this order! Also it should be known, this is for the most part a very family friendly list. Amo doesn’t do serial killers or gore. I enjoy myself a good creep but this is not a list of slasher movies. IF that’s what you’re into, I had my dad write his list of Halloween films to watch this month. His is intended to watch in order as well, and some nights are even double features. He also wrote a little commentary on each movie. If you’d like to view that list as well, click here!
So please join us! Follow my list, follow my dad’s, or HECK follow both! & if you do join us and post on instagram please use the hashtag #amys31nightsofhalloween so I can spy on you and see all your cuteness. At the bottom is a little graphic you can save to your phone with the list of movies in order, so you don’t have to refer to this blogpost everytime. But OKAY! Without further ado, let’s get some popcorn & candy corn, and let’s get into the movies!
1. HOCUS POCUS:
Let me just spoil it now, we will be book ending this Halloween movie series with Hocus Pocus. It is a PERFECT (do not come for me) Halloween film and I feel it is fully appropriate to start and end October with this masterpiece. If you somehow have never seen it (Bradley hadn’t up until 2 years ago, can you believe that!?), it’s a story of 3 witches coming back to taunt some kids. And it’s perfect. The 90’s vibes will make you feel incredible. ALSO Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker (as we call her in this house, SJP) and Kathy Najimy!? An Allstar cast that can’t be beat. Did I mention it’s perfect? It’s perfect.
PS: I am not putting Hocus Pocus 2 on my movie list YET, mostly because as of this moment I can’t decide if I’m too afraid to watch it or not??? I am so terrified it’s going to be bad and ruin my life… but we shall see if it makes the cut for next year’s list!
Streaming: Disney+
2. BEETLEJUICE:
An 80’s cult classic. And one of my all time favorite movies. It is… weird. But it’s creepy and Tim Burton and perfect for the Halloween season, although you could watch this movie anytime of year. And Michael Keaton is phenomenal in this. If you have children watching with you, be warned that my sister still can’t look at shrimp since watching the dinner scene as a child. She cried every time.
Streaming: Peacock
3. EDWARD SCISSORHANDS:
NOW, even I would argue that this could be considered a Christmas movie, due to there being Christmas scenes. However it is just wonderfully creepy and I always enjoy it this time of year. This is one of my very favorite movies. Another incredible film from Tim Burton, and another incredible score by Danny Elfman. Fun Fact: I walked down the aisle to Ice Dance 🙂
Streaming: Disney+
4. THE WITCHES
I was SUCH a fan of Roald Dahl books when I was little, but not so much this movie. IT’S SO SCARY!!! To be honest I had kind of forgotten about it until we saw it was streaming on Netflix. It is perfect for this season, as it’s about a gaggle of witches trying to kill children. And the head witch so perfectly played by Angelica Houston, the queen of Halloween (besides me, obv). Something nerdy Bradley and I loved about it was knowing that Jim Henson was responsible for all of the masks/puppets in the film. Made it a little less scary but not really. I am almost 31 years old and I was pretty scared during this movie soooo… beware.
Streaming: HBO Max
5. LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS
Again not a specific Halloween movie per say, but it’s a delightful musical about a plant who likes to eat humans and an abusive dentist so it will give you the creeps you’re looking for. They do however make it a bit more cheery of an ending in the movie though, the musical is a bit darker. AND incredible music by later Disney writing pair, Howard Ashman and Alan Menken. I love this movie very much. It’s been a while since I’ve seen it and I’m excited to rewatch it!
Streaming: Tubi
6. CASPER
You cannot even deny that you love Casper, it is a perfect family friendly Halloween film but it’s also funny and tugs at your heart strings. I don’t want to spoil anything but there is a certain scene that I literally ALWAYS sob to. Always. And the music, don’t even get me started. The score is way better than it needed to be for this cute little family friendly film.
Streaming: Tubi, Peacock
Also, please allow me to take this moment to share my favorite casper meme with you:
7. FRANKENWEENIE
Ahhh, Frankenweenie. I won’t lie to you, I skipped this one last year because we had just recently lost our family dog Red and it hit a little too close to home. What I would give to bring my boy back to life. It definitely pulls on the heart strings, but it’s also got it’s fun creepy twists as well that make it perfect to watch in October. Plus, I’m just a major sucker for 2 things, Tim Burton and stop motion. Okay 3 things, Tim Burton, stop motion and Danny Elfman.
Streaming: Disney+
8. 90’S SITCOM NIGHT
Let’s have a bit of nostalgia shall we? I’m frickin excited about this. WE ARE HAVING 90’S HALLOWEEN SITCOM NIGHT! We are throwing it back this evening to some of mine and Bradley’s fav Halloween sitcom episodes of some 90’s/early 00’s shows. You can watch all 4, or just a few, but all of them are fun!
1. BOY MEETS WORLD:
“And Then There Was Shawn”- Season 5, Episode 17
- Let’s pretend it’s TGIF!!! This, in my opinion, is one of the best Halloween TV epiosdes EVER! It used to scare me so bad as a child, but I loved it. I loved the creepy song that plays over the loud speaker.
- Streaming: Disney+
2. SABRINA THE TEENAGE WITCH
“A River of Candy Corn Runs Through It”-Season 2, Episode 7″
- Still continuing with the TGIF theme! All of the Sabrina Halloween episodes are amazing, it was hard for me to choose just one (so if you’re in the mood watch more!) but this one involves a river of candy corn and the kind of Halloween party I’d like to attend so I picked it!
- Streaming: Hulu
3. LIZZIE MCGUIRE
“Night of the Day of the Dead”-Season 1, Episode 24
- Now hopping on over to Disney! Lizzie Mcguire was probably my favorite TV show as a child/tween, and this episode sticks out. Love that it’s not just a typical Halloween party and they took the opportunity to teach kids who didn’t know (me) about what Day of the Dead is. It’s spooky & informative! And who doesn’t love Miranda!?
- Streaming: Disney+
4. EVEN STEVENS
“A Very Scary Story”-Season 2, Episode 13
- A very scary story indeed! First thing I did when Disney+ came out was rewatch all of Even Stevens (I already owned Lizzie & Raven 😂) so this episode was fresh on the brain and I definitely wanted to include it! It’s pretty creepy, Ren is stealing everyone’s eyeballs!!!
- Streaming: Disney+
9. CLUE
As of last year, I had never seen this movie OR played the board game!! We played the game one night and I loved it so much that I demanded Bradley show me the movie, which is one of his favs. I am a BIG FAN of Tim Curry (he’ll come up again later) and this movie was just fun, creepy and mysterious. I LOVED IT! Can’t wait to watch it again this year!
Streaming: Showtime
10. DISNEY SHORTS
Disney actually has a very fun collection of little Halloween cartoon shorts! For me, they’re classic as I grew up watching them. But if you’ve never seen them, I think you’ll find them fun as well!
1. Trick or Treat
- This one is my personal favorite! So many memories of watching this one on VHS! It invloves a very fun Halloween character, Witch Hazel, as well as Donald and his nephews on Halloween night! And the song is amazing! It’s stuck in my head as I type this. 🎶”Better not be stingy or your nightmares will come true”🎶
- Streaming: Disney+
2. A Silly Symphony – The Skeleton Dance
- This short dates back all the way to 1929 and was directed by the man himself, Walt Disney. It was the first of the Silly Symphonies series, which I personally love. And it’s about a bunch of skeletons dancing in a graveyard so it’s perfect for Halloween!
- Streaming: YouTube
3. THE OLD MILL
- We just recently watched this for the first time whilst we were watching the Disney shorts in order, and it was very captivating. And spooky. Not a ton happens but it definitely has a creepy vibe and I really enjoyed it!
- Streaming: Disney+
4. LONESOME GHOSTS
- Another great nostalgic cartoon from my childhood, and I’m sure you’ve at least seen a glimpse of these ghosts before. This short came out in 1937. Some lonely and bored ghosts call the “Ajax Ghost Exterminators” (Mickey, Donald and Goofy) and scare them silly! It’s very fun.
- Streaming: Disney+
11. CORALINE
Tik Tok really blew this movie up, which I appreciate. I get it’s a bit out there but I think it is FANTASTIC. I love everything about it. Stop motion, I love the music, TERI HATCHER, and it’s creepy as hell! Careful watching this one with your kids, it can get a little scary. Plus, Coraline will forever be one of my favorite Halloween costumes I’ve done!
Streaming: doesn’t seem to be streaming 🙁
12. THE ADVENTURES OF ICHABOD AND MR. TOAD (DISNEY’S SLEEPY HOLLOW)
OCTOBER 12TH IS MY BIRTHDAY! & each year on my birthday I have the tradition of watching my all time favorite cartoon, Disney’s version of Sleepy Hollow. And I am so excited this year that it is available on Disney+ so more people can enjoy it! So PLEASEEEE join us in my birthday tradition and enjoy one of my favorite things ever!
Streaming: Disney+ (it’s technically called The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad, but just skip Mr. Toad for now)
13. THE ADDAMS FAMILY
In my opinion, these films are pure Halloween brilliance. I didn’t realize until I was older that they are a parody of the Addams Family, and now I can appreciate it for it’s true brilliance. It’s very funny, but also the perfect Halloween feel. And the queen of Halloween, Angelica Houston, returns to SLAY as Morticia Addams. Like truly, could not have been more perfectly cast. And Raul Julia is incredible as Gomez. And don’t even get me started on Christina Ricci as Wednesday. Pure perfection.
Streaming: Paramount+
14. ADDAMS FAMILY VALUES
I’m usually not one for sequels, but in my opinion this movie is just as good as the first. Mostly thanks to Joan Cusack as Crazy Debbie. I cannot get enough of her! And obviously the return of Christina Ricci as Wednesday, and the iconic Thanksgiving scene. Wednesday is a whole quarantine mood.
Streaming: Paramount+
15. THE CURIOUS CREATIONS OF CHRISTINE MCCONNELL: NIGHT 1
Bradley and I discovered this glorious show last year whilst scrolling through the Halloween section of Netflix. It combines all my favorite things: halloween, DIYs, crafting, baking and MUPPETS! Yes you heard me, muppets. The creepy puppets in this show are by the Jim Henson company. And they’re very crude. We are OBSESSED with Christine McConnell since discovering this show. It’s sadly been cancelled since, but we have followed her journey on YouTube and now Patreon! We can’t wait for each and every new episode. There are 6 episodes, so we’re going to watch 3 tonight and watch the last 3 on a different night a little later on 🙂
Streaming: Netflix
16. DARK SHADOWS
I may possibly be the only person that enjoys this movie, but I really really do (lol). I find it incredibly funny, I always love Tim Burton/Johnny Depp and Eva Green is AMAZING in this! And I’d definitely like to watch the original TV Show of this, as I’ve never seen it.
17. THE NIGHTMARE BEFORE CHRISTMAS
I’m sure you guys were very prepared to see this on this list haha. One of my all time favorite movies. I didn’t want to put it up too high in the list and have it already over with, so I put it in the middle. I think this is a perfect film. The idea, the music, the stop motion animation, the heart. Jack Skellington will forever be my animated boyfriend. And I know plenty of you will come for me that this is a “Christmas movie” and that is FALSE. It is definitely a Halloween movie. But even if you want to play that game, it’s best to watch it in October so you have Halloween AND Christmas to look forward to! If you watch it after Halloween it’s just depressing.
Streaming: Disney+
18. THE MUNSTERS
I am a HUGE fan of the Munsters. Dare I say, even more so than the Addams Family. I used to watch reruns on TV Land with my mom in bed, and after reminiscing about that one day I ordered the full collection on Amazon (it’s only $20) last year and Bradley and I started watching it from the beginning. It’s a great show that in my opinion really holds up. We both laugh out loud, and not in a “oh this is weird way” but a genuine giggle. It just makes me feel good, hope it does the same for you! And also, I think my pick for greatest TV Theme EVER!
Streaming: Peacock (and not the paid version! These are free with the app!)
19. ELVIRA, MISTRESS OF THE DARK
I am a HUGE Elvira fan and I can’t believe I’ve never seen this! I’m very excited to watch it for the first time this year with you, if you’re watching along. She’s creepy and sarcastic and that’s really all I need in life.
Streaming: Tubi, PLEX
20. BOB’S BURGERS: HALLOWEEN EPISODES
Bob’s Burgers is my personal fav cartoon television show (maybe aside from Spongebob, sorry Simpson’s) and they have FANTASTIC Halloween episodes (as well as Thanksgiving but we can watch those next month). I always look forward to them. So let’s watch a few of my favorites tonight!
1. “FULL BARS”
-Season 3, Episode 2
2. “THE HAUNTENING”
Season 6, Episode 3
3. “TEEN-A-WITCH”
Season 7, Episode 3
4. “NIGHTMARE ON OCEAN AVENUE STREET”
Season 9, Episode 4
Streaming: Hulu
21. CORPSE BRIDE
There really isn’t a Tim Burton movie I don’t like (well except for Alice in Wonderland, he did me dirty on that one. But when it comes to stop motion), and Corpse Bride is no exception. It’s short and sweet, I think Emily is so beautiful and the music just the same. We used quite a bit of this score at our wedding as well
Streaming: Netflix
22. 90’S CARTOON NIGHT
Sitcom night was so fun, let’s have a cartoon night! Here are some Halloween episodes from my favorite cartoons growing up as well as where to stream them!
1. HEY ARNOLD
“Arnold’s Halloween”-Season 2, Episode 11
- I’m excited to revisit this episode! I loooooove Hey Arnold. And so does my husband so this is one of our favorite shows to put on as we fall asleep. But I’m excited to sit down and watch this Halloween episode!
- Streaming: Hulu, Pluto TV, Paramount+
2. RUGRATS
“Candy Bar Creep Show”-Season 1, Episode 9
- After revisiting Rugrats as an adult, I kind of feel like every episode is creepy and perfect for Halloween (lol), but this is the first Halloween episode of the series and I remember it so clearly! Everyone has too many reptar bars and their tongues turn green!
- Streaming: Hulu, PlutoTV
3. DOUG
“Doug’s Halloween Adventure”-Season 4, Episode 4
- We are also HUGE fans of Doug in this household. I picked this episode because it’s specifically Halloween themed but I also love the episode where Doug sees the scary movie. That would be good too!
- Streaming: Paramount+
4. SPONGEBOB SQUAREPANTS
“Graveyard Shift”-Season 2, Episode 16
- An absolute classic. Excited for all of us to enjoy it together!
- Streaming: Pluto TV, Hulu, Paramount+
23. THE SIMPSONS TREEHOUSE OF HORROR
I’ve definitely always enjoyed watching The Simpsons, but I watch a lot more of it now since meeting Bradley. And he introduced me to their Halloween episodes, which they call Treehouse of Horror. They have played them on FreeForm during the 31 Nights of Halloween in the past, but now they’re all streaming on Disney+ so you can watch them there!
1. “TREEHOUSE OF HORROR III”
Season 4, Epsiode 5
2. “TREEHOUSE OF HORROR VI”
Season 7, Episode 6
3. “TREEHOUSE OF HORROR IV”
Season 5, Episode 5
4. “TREEHOUSE OF HORROR V”
Season 6, Episode 6
Streaming: Disney+
24. MUPPETS HAUNTED MANSION
I SO enjoyed this last year so I definitely wanted to add it to the list! I am a BITCH for the Muppets, and add in the haunted mansion!?!? I’m sold. This special had me laughing out loud multiple times & I can’t wait to watch it again!
Streaming: Disney+
25. THE ADDAMS FAMILY (2019)
To be honest, I wasn’t really into giving this movie a chance because I love the parody movies so much and I’m just nervous they’re going to ruin it… but the trailer for the sequel that’s coming out this year made me LOL so much that I decided to put it on the list this year. Fingers crossed that we like it!
Streaming: Prime
26. PARANORMAN
Shockingly, this is a new one for Bradley & I! We want to make sure to watch all of the Laika Studios movies so this is our start! I have heard great things about this movie, and I obviously love Coraline so I’m excited to finally watch! Join along :0)
27. KNIVES OUT
I LOVED this movie. Probably my favorite movie from 2019. If you like Clue, you will like this movie. Not Halloween specific per say, but it was a GREAT mystery and creeped me out several times. SUCH a great cast, a fun mystery to try and figure out, it’s incredibly funny and… Chris Evans. Need I say more? I think not. & I can’t wait for the second one!!!
28. HALLOWEENTOWN
YESSSSSS! I am so excited Disney+ exists this year so I can watch the HalloweenTown movies!!! I only added the first one to the list, but i honestly love all 4 of them. But especially the first 2! And now I can finally enjoy them. So delighted! This movie is full of magic, whimsy and nostalgia. And the incredible Debbie Reynolds!
Streaming: Disney+
29. THE ROCKY HORROR PICTURE SHOW
I told you Tim Curry would be back! Don’t you just love him? I certainly do. Anyway, STORY TIME: but warning, this story paints me in a pretty bitter light haha. In college (I went to musical theatre college – woohoo!) they did Rocky Horror my second to last semester. It was the best I’ve ever done in any audition, and I got callbacks for both Janet and Columbia. I was DELIGHTED. However, I must have really tanked the callbacks because I didn’t get either part. AND I DIDN’T EVEN MAKE IT INTO THE ENSEMBLE (lol). I was so bitter about this that I couldn’t even think about watching the movie without getting enraged 😂 But I’m over it now (not actually) and I’m back to enjoying one of my favorite creepy movies from my childhood. Yes, I was a weird child. And this is a weird movie. It’s a cult classic for a reason!
Streaming: I can’t find this one anywhere 🙁 Hopefully you already own this one too
30. IT’S THE GREAT PUMPKIN, CHARLIE BROWN
This is such a nostalgic staple for me. I always like to watch it either the night before or on Halloween! I watched this every year laying in bed with my mom . And she would laugh EVERY TIME when Charlie Brown got rocks or Lucy would ask for candy for her “stupid brother”. So now I laugh every time too. I also LOVED the idea of the Great Pumpkin when I was little and wished he was real. How bitchin’ would that be. Also a tip: if you ever need something calm and relaxing to work to, this soundstrack is delightful. I’m listening to it right now!
Streaming: Apple TV
31. HOCUS POCUS
And we’ve come full circle! First of all, HAPPY HALLOWEEN! I know it’s a bit different this year but I hope it’s magical nonethless. And I hope this list of movies brought you some creepy, whimsy, happiness and nostalgia as well! Enjoy Hocus Pocus again because it’s pure perfection. And I hope to see you again next year!
Streaming: Disney+
Woohoo! Thank you so much for scrolling through and I hope you watch along with me! Here is a graphic you can save to your phone to remind you of the order of the movies if you’re following along!:
Love you!!!! If you’re watching along, please don’t forget to tag me if you share on instagram! I’d love to see and chat with you guys! And to end things, here is a behind the scenes picture of Ludo lusting after the popcorn:

This is the 3rd October in a row that I have followed this movie list, as well as your Christmas movie list in December!
I’m just curious if you would consider making an updated Halloween/Christmas movie watch list, since SO MANY new films have come out since this was made? (Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, Hocus Pocus 2, etc).
I know it’s a tough ask to remove (aka MURDER) a movie from the list to replace it with another one, but would love to follow along with 31 Nights of Halloween and 25 Days of Christmas 2.0!
Much love from an American Amy who lives in Prague, Czechia!
I love how much time and love was put into this list ♥️ I’ll definitely be watching these with some additional Halloween films I can’t live without 🧡 I’ll be sure to post and tag you and Katie for the ones I see ☺️
We watched dark shadows for first time ever tonight! So good!
Another new one to add to the list. Adam Sandlers new Netflix movie. Hubie Halloween. If you like his movies, you will enjoy this one as well…….and all his usual suspects show up in the movie….including several of their own children. Enjoy!
I love this!! Can I ask why Monster House isn’t on your list? Coraline + Frankenweenie have similar vibes which is why I ask. Would love to know what you thought about that one!
Amazing job! Love this so much! Cant wait to see more!
Happy Halloween!!
You need an email signup so you can let us know when you post me content!
I am so happy this exists! Thank you Amy! Cant wait to watch along and i love your website🙃❤
I am so happy this exists! Thank you Amy! Cant wait to watch along and i love your website🙃❤
Hi Amy,I liked your dad’s list better.😏
Legit list – so much better than the Freeform one! They started cheapo-ing out a while ago by re-playing the same 6 movies all month. Especially love the 90s nights etc. Sending you all the spookies from a fellow Halloween nut!
I absolutely love having this laid back more in-depth kind of access to all things Amy!!! 🤗 🎃 😁 👻
My brother introduced to amazing experiences when I was younger (and underage lol) but let’s not talk about those lol He took me to see Yentl (it’s one of my favorites every time I hear Papa can you hear me I ball like a baby) and The Rocky Horror picture show (LIVE) and we dressed up…it was the best and The little shop of Horrors…My son is 10 and he loves it! Lol He loves the music!
This is awesome Amy!! TY
Beautiful Website, Amy. The photos are fabulous! I’ll be watching several suggestions from your list- some are old faves, some I’ve never seen (can you believe I’ve never watched Hocus Pocus?) Your dad’s list is awesome as well, I LOVE horror movies. Ludo is so adorable♥
Congratulations Amy! This is a wonderful website. Beautifully put together. How nice to everything Amy all in one place!
Yes! The Queen has a website. Liiiiving for this! So excited to see all the good things that you will be posting! Can’t wait to enjoy some good Halloween movies! Hope you do this at Christmas too!! 💕💕 you!
Congrats on the website launch Amy! It looks amazing!
What an awesome list! Very excited to have Disney+ this year for Halloween movies! I personally HAVE to watch the Charlie Brown ones on the respective holiday days, but I’ll gonna try to follow your list!
Amy…. this is a great website! Beautiful!! So happy and excited for you!! Am looking forward to coming here daily…as I have done in the past with your IG and You Tube!! The graphics are so cute and are so “YOU”….love the polka dots!! You are doing so well with everything! 😀
